The heart-shaped of Scanno lake

The most romantic lake in Abruzzo

Did you know that Lake Scanno has the shape of a heart? Due to its particular shape, Lake Scanno is considered the most romantic lake in Abruzzo and one of the favorite destinations for many couples in love looking for relaxation.

Lake Scanno does not actually have the shape of a heart but there is a certain observation point that actually gives this impression.

The panoramic point from which you have this wonderful view of the lake can be reached by walking along a path called "the path of the heart" which in half an hour walking through the woods will take you to a point where the view will leave you speechless.

Nestled between the surrounding mountains, Lake Scanno, from this panoramic point, will magically appear with a romantic and suggestive heart shape and the spectacle to be admired will be totally different in every season of the year.

Lake Scanno

Lake Scanno is the largest natural basin in the region, it is located at 922 meters above sea level and was formed by the damming of the valley following a landslide on the Mount Genzana.

The lake has a length of about 1500 meters and a width of 800 and, at the deepest point it measures about 32 meters, a depth that remains stable throughout the year thanks to the contribution of Tasso and Giordano streams which are the direct tributaries of the lake.

Lake Scanno, due to its abundance of water, feeds some small lakes from the subsoil, including Lake Pio in Villalago, moreover the river Sagittario, the only emissary of the lake, has helped to shape the wonderful Sagittario 's Valley.

In this splendid area, a stone's throw from the National Park of Abruzzo, there are numerous species of animals that symbolize the region, such as the brown bear, the wolf and the deer that have found their ideal habitat here.
